Whether you’re an autumn-lover or a sun worshipper, summer is once again coming to a close and we’re only a handful of sleeps away from crisp mornings, crunchy brown leaves and the smell of pumpkin spice in the air.
One thing we do love about autumn, besides getting to wrap up warm in thermal gear, is the excuse for a cosy night in with our nearest and dearest. Let’s face it, who wants to go for an after work drink when it’s dark and chilly at 4pm? We know we’d much rather be tucked up in a homemade sofa-fort watching the same feel good film for the 100th time.

At Home Cinema
We all love a good movie night. Rom-com, horror, comedy or action - whatever your genre, there’s nothing as cosy as shutting the curtains, grabbing all of the snacks and snuggling under a cosy blanket for a movie marathon.
It’s easy to stick Netflix on and call it a night, but going the extra mile with American-style popcorn and homemade ‘tickets’ is a sure-fire way to have the ultimate date night or be parent of the year!
Setting your ‘theatre’ up gives your at-home movie night that authentic cinema feel. Position the sofa, your arm chair and any extra seats you have to face your projector or TV. For your viewing snack, combine chocolate M&Ms with store-bought popcorn for a sweet and chocolatey surprise. To give everyone a good laugh, print out theatre ‘tickets’ and write the name of the movie you’re planning to watch. Finally, just before the movie begins, turn the lights down low and hand out blankets for a relaxing movie experience.
Indoor Camping
‘Indoor’ and ‘camping’ aren’t typically two words found in the same sentence, but once autumn comes around, those dark evenings can be bitterly cold. Not everyone has the correct equipment to be out camping in the colder months, so we’ve put a twist on classic camping that the whole family can enjoy.
We know what you’re thinking, “tents inside, really?” but worry no further, we’re not going to suggest pitching your 9-man tent in your living room. Instead, grab your blankets, throws, bedding and cushions and build an indoor fort around your existing furniture. Hang your material where you can, being careful of any delicate items. Once you have your fort, decorate it with cushions, battery-powered lamps and your favourite ‘camping’ essentials.
Remember, you’re camping, so you need to be wearing your snuggliest clothing. Layer up with joggers or pyjama bottoms, loungewear and sleep socks whilst you share scary stories and snack on toasted marshmallows!
Game Night
This one’s a classic, and a classic for good reason. We may not all be humble winners, in fact, we might be a bit of a sore loser at times, but a game night is always good fun no matter the outcome.
Friends or family, there’s something uber cosy about wearing your at-home loungewear amidst a heated game of UNO or two.
To make it extra fun, each player must bring a short game of their choice as well as a prize for the winner. Don’t tell any of the other guests your game or prize beforehand, and let the best man, woman or child win!
Getting Crafty
You don’t need to be the next Picasso to take part and have fun with a touch of arts and crafts. Head to your local DIY store and grab a medium-sized canvas and some paint and give each of your family members or guests the name of another guest. Ask everyone to paint their respective name without showing their masterpiece and do a ‘grand reveal’ at the end of the evening of the individual paintings.
If painting isn’t really your thing, purchase some air-dry clay and mould into mugs, plates and decorative items. You can also use air-dry clay to make jewellery such as earrings!
